Zhejiang province is looking to raise its international profile by forming new partnerships with Chinese and overseas media organizations.

More than 30 media agencies including the Wall Street Journal, CNN, China Daily and Xinhua News Agency are attending a conference hosted by Zhejiang's provincial government that kicked off on April 24 in Hangzhou, where discussions are focusing on fostering closer ties between Zhejiang and the media.

The conference is designed to be a platform to promote exchanges and cooperation on news reporting, global communication projects and foreign-related events between the Zhejiang government and the media at home and abroad, according to the event's organizer, the Information Office of Zhejiang province.

Zhejiang, situated on the southeastern coast of China, has been one of the most dynamic and competitive provinces in China since the country began its reform and opening-up three decades ago.

Hosting world-renowned events such as the G20 Summit and the World Internet Conference has also gained Zhejiang much attention from the outside world in recent years.

Many departments in the provincial government have seen growing demands for exchanges and international promotion as a result, and this conference is aimed at responding to these calls.
