(ezhejiang.gov.cn) Updated : 2017-08-15

The curtain was raised recently on the 2017 Wenzhou Maker Competition.

Wenzhou in East China's Zhejiang province expects good projects from across the nation to be commercialized and economic growth in the city to be spurred through the event.

So far, 846 teams from more than 20 provinces and cities in China and overseas areas like Silicon Valley have registered for the competition. The majority of their projects are concerned with the internet, mobile internet, electronic information, new energy, energy conservation, environmental protection and culture creativity.

The participants are mainly university students, scientific researchers, returned overseas Chinese and young Wenzhou businesspeople who are passionate about innovation and start-ups and are willing to settle their projects in Wenzhou.

Around 100 projects will enter the final list and will receive strong support for incubation and settlement from the government. Meanwhile, the teams will be financially supported by capital funds and banks.

Hosted by the municipal government and organized by the Wenzhou science technology department, this year's event is the second national maker competition to be held in the city.

"We hope the competition will help gather more innovative resources in Wenzhou -- not only good projects, but also industrial platforms and venture capital -- which will facilitate the city's innovative development," said an official of the competitions' organizing committee.
