Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, decided to upgrade its railway system by developing six new high-speed railway lines and building three more railway stations, according to a recent plan approved by China Railway Group Ltd and Zhejiang government.

Once the new network is completed, Hangzhou will possess six train stations and 11 high-speed railway lines to nine directions including Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, Wuhan and Ningbo, surpassing Shanghai and Nanjing in terms of the amount of lines.

The six train stations located at different parts of the city will cement the city's status as a comprehensive transport hub in Yangtze River Delta Area.

Chen Zhoubin, director of the transport department of Hangzhou Development of Reform Commission, said that the new railway network will make it more convenient for people to travel to most cities in the province, as well as some large Chinese cities such as Beijing, Guangzhou and Chongqing.

For instance, with the high-speed train, it will take only three hours from Hangzhou to Wuhan  and the direct train to Hong Kong will only take six hours.
