The Yiwu-Madrid freight route linking Zhejiang's Yiwu, the world's largest wholesale market for small consumer goods, with the European commodity center of Madrid by way of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region was launched in November of 2014. The Yiwu-Madrid freight route covering over 13,000 kilometers saw over 120 trips in the first ten months carrying 11,000 TEUs, up 53.75 percent year on year. It has boosted foreign trade in East China's export powerhouse of Zhejiang.
