A delegation from Kumasi, the second largest city in Ghana, visited Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province from April 11 to 14 to seek exchanges and cooperation.

This was the first time that Kumasi's Mayor Osei Assibey Antiwi has paid a visit to the Zhejiang city. "I like the vibrant city. It must be a good place to do businesses", he said.

Zhou Jiangyong, Party secretary of Wenzhou, welcomed the delegation and briefed its members on the latest development in Wenzhou.

Wenzhou and Kumasi share a lot in common, especially the strong atmosphere for trade, according to Antiwi.

As an economic hub in Ghana, Kumasi is renowned for its active trade. "Kumasi has a population of 3 million people and one third of them are engaged in businesses worldwide," Antiwi said, adding that in addition to Ghana, the city's natives do businesses in the entire Africa and even China, the United States, UK and Turkey.

In 2010, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), the largest hospital in northern Ghana, signed a memorandum with Wenzhou Medical University (WMU) for a joint ophthalmology project, which is expected to be completed next year.

During the visit to The Affiliated Eye Hospital of WMU, one of China's best hospitals in ophthalmology, the mayor was impressed by the number of students from Kumasi studying at the university. He hoped that the students would take with them the top-notched expertise and technologies back to Kumasi.

The mayor also invited Wenzhou enterprises to invest and do business in Kumasi, especially in the infrastructure construction. He pledged that if Wenzhou business people are willing to build public facilities like hospitals and parking lots in Kumasi, the government will offer them land for free.
