The 18th China Plastics Exhibition and Conference (China PEC 2018), held in Taizhou, Zhejiang province from Oct 11 to 14, attracted over 1,000 merchants from abroad, a year-on-year increase of 230 percent.

Taizhou boasts a developed plastics industry with more than 12,000 plastics companies and over 4,000 mould manufacturers stationed there. Around 70 percent of China's plastic necessities for everyday use are made in the city, which has won Taizhou the name of "kingdom of plastic products".

China PEC is an important event strongly supported by the Ministry of Commerce and the plastic machines, moulds and products showcased at the exhibition are considered signs of the latest trends in the global plastics industry.

The event's professionalization and internationalization have injected much vitality into the industry and made it into a significant exchange platform for exhibitors and merchants from around the world, especially those from countries and regions involved in China's Belt and Road Initiative.

This year, covering 30,000 square meters, 1,500 booths hosted 500 exhibitors. The increase in foreign visitors indicated the strengthened communications between China and the outside world, as well as the strong influence China PEC exerts around the world after 18 years of development, according to Yu Xuanjiang, chairman of Taizhou's international expo center.

"We've established long-term partnerships with some purchasers via the exhibition," said Huang Awei, a sales manager from a local company.

An official from Taizhou government said the city will seize the opportunities brought by China PEC and constantly innovate services, improve the business environment and enhance its image of "kingdom of plastic products", to boost the development of Taizhou's private economy.
