Cultural event in Lanxi held to commemorate famed dramatist

Dozens of experts from across the nation attended a cultural event in Lanxi, Zhejiang province, to commemorate the famous dramatist Li Yu (1611-1680) Nov 22.

Li, a great master of literature living in late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and early Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), left many literary works. He is a cultural icon in Lanxi, and his home village has been transformed into a stage to present his cultural achievements, as well as local cultural heritages.

The experts took a close look at cultural relics relating to Li's life and watched performances given by a local art troupe.

Dong Wei, vice-chairman of th China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, was impressed by the preservation of theatrical art in Lanxi. He said people should uphold the idea of protecting Chinese traditional culture and inject new, modern vitality to further promote it.
