East China's Zhejiang province held an annual economic work conference in Hangzhou on Dec 26, setting the tone for economic development in the new year.

One of the most important economic indicators in the province, the conference, composed of government leaders, economists and entrepreneurs, promotes progress while maintaining stability.

Upholding new development ideas and insisting on quality development, Zhejiang will keep focusing on supply-side structural reform, deepening of market-oriented reform and further opening-up.

Economic development in 2019 is expected to lay a foundation for the 70th anniversary of New China, as well as a moderately prosperous society in all respects by 2020, according to the conference.

Yuan Jiajun, governor of Zhejiang, announced three main tasks for the economy, which are to continue with reform and opening-up, take tough steps on "three tough battles" (to forestall and defuse major risks, carry out targeted poverty alleviation, and control pollution), and to support the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta.

To fulfill the tasks, the governor stressed three perspectives: stabilized companies, increased economic drivers and safety.

Che Jun, Party secretary of the province, called for instant and intense preparations for the first quarter of 2019 and stressed the importance of a good beginning.
