Wenzhou opens arms to global talents

Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, welcomes the arrival of talented personnel from home and abroad, local authorities announced at an innovation and entrepreneurship meeting in the city Feb 26.

Forty new measures to attract talents unveiled last year have been well implemented, with 247 high-profile professionals and 14 teams receiving total subsidies of 130 million yuan ($19.4 million), according to the authorities.

More talent attraction measures were revealed at the meeting, including the establishment of a high-profile investment fund and a talent service bank, with the goal of better linking talents, capital and projects, and providing better fundraising services for innovative and startup teams.

Chen Weijun, Party secretary of Wenzhou, explained that Wenzhou had established clear goals, showed upward momentum, and had launched a series of preferential policies, which is making the city an ideal destination for people to realize their dreams.

Chen urged local officials to pull out all stops, such as offering better services and improving the business environment, to lure talents from around the world.

The Party secretary said that the city is nurturing new driving forces, building various industrial, innovative and open platforms, and optimizing its mechanisms, policies and services to create a good working and living environment for talents.

People at the meeting also expressed their willingness to coexist and co-develop with the city.

Li Xiaokun, president of Wenzhou Medical University, expressed gratitude for the city's support of the university's cultivation of top medical professionals and scientific research.

Yang Xiaoyin, deputy general manager of Zhejiang Huafon Spandex Co, said that the company would cooperate with local scientific and technical workers to promote the development of the city's sci-tech innovation.
