The publicity department of Zhejiang province, together with a local cultural committee, announced an activity aimed at promoting the province's culture on May 5. The activity will solicit cultural elements from anyone who wishes to participate.

The activity aims to advance the cultural development of the province by exploring and protecting the province's symbolic cultural elements.

"The elements we want to promote can take on tangible and intangible forms," said Shou Jiangang, member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC Zhejiang committee.

They can include but are not limited to cultural relics, historical events, books and writings, cultural institutions, folk festivals, classic products, and cultural landmarks. Cultural figures are not included in the selection, Shou said.

Organizers have come up with four requirements for the cultural elements – they must represent Zhejiang's culture, reflect local characteristics, have originated in the province, and be well preserved.

Deadline for submission is May 31.
