(ezhejiang.gov.cn) Updated : 2019-06-21

An online book transaction and reading platform providing access to large volumes of digital publications, including the latest achievements made in collecting and processing modern Chinese history documents, will be launched by the end of this year in Yuecheng district, Shaoxing city, Zhejiang province.

The platform will gather publications from the 100 most famous Chinese publishers and libraries and will be available on mobile phones and even TVs, functioning as a "smart study" resource, according to Qian Zhouming, vice president of Zhejiang Yue Sheng Culture Media Group, developer of the platform.

The platform is part of the company's effort to promote a program initiated by Shaoxing authorities to protect documents relating to modern Chinese history. This is the first large-scale cultural undertaking in China to comprehensively organize the nation's modern history documents.

According to Xu Di, deputy director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Shaoxing Municipal Committee, the city has set up a working group to promote the program. It will take an estimated 10 to 15 years to collect and reproduce modern Chinese historic documents between 1840 and 1949 on a global scale. The documents cover literature, economy, politics, education, art, history, science and technology in modern China.

Zhejiang Yue Sheng Culture Media Group is the only private company engaged in a cultural project of this kind. It specializes in publishing and printing, developing digital trading platforms for publications, and art auctions. Alongside the company are dozens of esteemed scholars and elites in publishing circles who are offering their advice and suggestions on how best to carry out the project.

According to incomplete statistics, in China's long history there are more than 300 renowned experts from Shaoxing, demonstrating the city's strong cultural influence as one of the first historical and cultural Chinese cities.
