A group of nine cities from the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region, including Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou, released blueprints for the development of advanced manufacturing industries in Wuhu, Anhui province on June 24.

The blueprints, focusing on artificial intelligence (AI), integrated circuits, biomedicine, high-end equipment, new energy, new materials and new energy vehicles, emphasize the coordinated development of cities and suggest development strategies tailored to the industrial strengths of each individual city.

Songjiang district in Shanghai will focus on brain science and computer vision technology. Hangzhou in Zhejiang province will stay focused on AI and computing. Suzhou in Jiangsu province will emphasize precise machines and robots. Hefei, capital of Anhui, will develop voice recognition technology.

In terms of new materials, the document stipulates different research directions for each city. For instance, Jiaxing in Zhejiang will prioritize the development of chemical materials and special fibers, while Hangzhou will prioritize textiles and semiconductor materials.

The nine cities, among which Jiaxing, Huzhou, Hangzhou and Jinhua are in Zhejiang province, are members of the G60 Science and Innovation Corridor, a high-tech manufacturing zone expected to bolster the development of the YRD region.
