A cultural and art exchange week between China and Africa opened in Yuhang district of Hangzhou, in Zhejiang province on Aug 9, local media reported.

Attended by Chinese and African cultural and tourism experts, government officials, and representatives from the China-Africa Business Council, the event aims to strengthen cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and Africa and promote dialogues between the two civilizations.

African students in Hangzhou visited Liangzhu Museum to have a better understanding of China's civilization, dating back about 5,000 years in Zhejiang province.

Chen Rugen, head of Yuhang district said that he hopes that the event can serve as a bridge to facilitate cultural exchanges between China and Africa and promote Yuhang's culture to the world, while introducing African culture and tourism to the district.

An exhibition featuring African masks and people's daily lives was also held, displaying hundreds of wood carvings, oil paintings, domestic utensils and unique cultural and artistic products.

The exhibition runs until Aug 18.
