Ningbo unveils plan to step up infrastructure construction

Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province, recently unveiled an action plan to step up infrastructure construction, according to local media reports. 

According to the plan, by 2022, the city will carry out 100 major new infrastructure projects costing over 200 billion yuan ($289.8 million) in the hope of becoming a model city for the construction of new-type infrastructure such as 5G and data bases.

Over the next three years, the city plans to promote the construction of the new generation of network infrastructure and further cement its status as a national information hub.

Ningbo also plans to speed up the development of a smart city by building facilities such as big data centers and city brains.

It plans to build 3,100 charging piles, 50 smart schools, and 10 internet hospitals by 2022, according to the plan.

Meanwhile, efforts will be made to ramp up infrastructure construction to bolster innovation. 

It will work to accelerate the construction of major scientific infrastructure such as national blockchain laboratories and plans to establish or introduce 20 industrial technology research institutes.

The city will also facilitate the growth of emerging industries such as integrated circuits, industrial internet, intelligent components, and intelligent connected vehicles. 

A head official from the Ningbo municipal development and reform commission said that Ningbo will leverage opportunities brought about by industry digitization and digital industrialization, and added that new infrastructure such as 5G and data centers will help the city strengthen its ability to address challenges and expand its development potential.
