Yuyao villagers make fortune through featured farming

He Dafeng, a resident of Hengkantou village in Yuyao, Zhejiang province, years ago spent 120,000 yuan ($17,196) of his savings in contracting 10 hectares of idle land for fruit farming. Now his farm has become a locally well-known agricultural sightseeing garden.

He has been growing cherries, waxberries and kiwi fruits, and with the help of two agriculture experts, he introduced pineapples and sweet persimmon into his farm this year.

There is no shortage of like-minded villagers in Hengkantou village who have made a fortune through featured farming. As a result, the village saw its residents' per capita disposable income rose from 2,700 yuan in 2003 to 36,248 yuan in 2019, a 13-fold increase over 16 years.
