Wandao waxberries produced in Xiaosha subdistrict of Dinghai district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, will hit the market this week. The fruit's picking season will last a week.

The Wandao waxberry is a unique Zhoushan product that features fine pulp and a sweet-sour taste. In 2010, the fruit was recognized as a national-level geographical indication agricultural product.

The sweet and juicy fruit will be more expensive than last year as bad weather caused a huge drop in yield this year, according to Zhang Yudi, director of the Xiaosha Xingzhou waxberry plantation in Dinghai.

Zhang said that this year's yield is just 30 percent of last year's and the fruit is expected to be priced from 160 yuan ($23.86) to 200 yuan per kilogram.
