The 2022 China Green Low Carbon Innovation Conference opened in Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province on Aug 15.

The conference, which was sponsored by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government, was attended by more than 260 luminaries including 60 academicians from home and abroad.

Wan Gang, chairman of CAST, addressed the opening ceremony via a video link and called for more scientific innovations to be made to bolster China's goal of achieving peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and carbon neutrality before 2060.

Wan also stressed the significance of opening-up and coordination between different parties in society to achieve the target.

Yuan Jiajun, Party chief of Zhejiang, pointed out that Zhejiang will adhere to the green and low carbon development path by placing ecology as a top priority.

Elizabeth Mulema, executive secretary of the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, also participated virtually.

The conference also witnessed the inauguration of the "Innovation China" Green Low Carbon Innovation Consortium.

Huzhou, the event's host city, has long been hailed as a model in the nation's campaign to create a green and low carbon economy.
