Martial artists gather in Lishui for Zhejiang International Traditional Wushu Competition

The 17th Zhejiang International Traditional Wushu Competition took place on July 19 and 20 at the Lishui Sports Center in Lishui, East China's Zhejiang province.

The competition attracted 207 teams and 4,220 participants from around the world, highlighting a growing enthusiasm for traditional martial arts.

This year's competition was a resounding success, with 95.31 percent of participants coming from outside the city. Youth dominated the event, with 2,561 competitors under the age of 18, comprising 60 percent of the total. Participants' ages ranged from as young as 4 to as old as 81, displaying a broad appeal across generations.

The international presence was notable, with four teams and 10 international participants contributing to the event's diverse and global atmosphere.

"This is the second time the Zhejiang International Traditional Wushu Competition has been held in Lishui," said Dai Chonggao, secretary general of the organizing committee.

"A child's participation often brings along a family, boosting the local economy with over 6,000 visitors. Many families extended their stay for study tours," Dai added.

All events were held at the Lishui Sports Center, marking its debut as a competition venue. Spanning 135,800 square meters, the center is a sports landmark, featuring four gymnasiums and a stadium.
