The "2026 Hometown of Overseas Chinese Chinayear" event was held on Feb 9 at Shankou village's cultural hall in Lishui's Qingtian county, where locals and Chinese returning from overseas gathered to experience the festival's unique charm with a fair and village gala.
The traditional cultural fair opened in the village square, featuring handicrafts, interactive experiences, and local food, with visitors participating in activities such as collecting stamps to redeem vouchers.
The interactive zone of the fair allowed visitors to engage with a performer portraying the God of Wealth and solve lantern riddles for gifts, while the food area offered local snacks. The craft section displayed various Qingtian stone carvings, with artists introducing their history to international visitors, who admired their exquisite craftsmanship.
The village gala then began at 6 pm, with a drum dance igniting the festive atmosphere. Performances by international guests, including solo dances, added a distinct flavor to the event.
Organizers said the event aimed to combine traditional cultural elements, such as stone carving, with the nostalgia of overseas Chinese and the participation of international friends, further integrating local cultural features to revitalize traditions and deepen cultural and tourism integration for rural development.
By showcasing traditional culture and Spring Festival spirit, the event built a cultural bridge connecting local communities with friends from around the world.
