Shaoxing in East China's Zhejiang province plans to establish a partner-city relationship with Changwon, South Korea, local authorities announced on Oct 21.

The relationship is expected to integrate both cities into the Belt and Road Initiative and boost exchanges in trade, education, culture, and healthcare.

Shaoxing has a long history of cooperating with South Korean cities and districts.

In 1997, Shaoxing established sister-city relations with Yeosu, a city on the southern coast of the Korean Peninsula in South Jeolla province.

In 2004, the city established a relationship with Yongsan district in central Seoul, which is home to many foreign embassies.

In 2015, it formed a partnership with Daegu, and the two have carried out frequent exchanges since then.

On Feb 29, Daegu received 61,200 masks, 1,000 protective suits, 5,000 goggles, and other medical supplies from Shaoxing to fight against COVID-19.
