COVID-19 antigen self-test kits are now available at some drug stores in Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, local media outlets reported.
Manufactured by Bioscience Tianjian, the self-test kits are sold at 17 yuan ($2.67) per unit. Each box comes with 25 kits. People have to register using their real identities when purchasing the kits. Medical insurance is currently not an eligible means of payment.
Every kit contains a sterile disposable swab, a sample treatment solution, a test card and instructions.
Users should insert the disposable swab 1 to 1.5 centimeters into the nose, rotate it four times, and keep it inside for at least 15 seconds before taking it out. Repeat the above procedure for the other nostril. After sampling, place the swab into the tube containing the sample treatment solution. Rotate and squeeze the tube for at least 30 seconds before dripping the solution onto the test card. The result should appear within 15 minutes.
If the test result is negative, the swab, sample tube and test card should be disposed of as general waste in a sealed bag. If the test result is positive, users must inform their residential community so that they can be transferred to designated quarantine sites. The kit should also be handed to medical workers for disposal.
