Zhoushan port area registers record high cargo throughput

The annual cargo throughput of the Zhoushan port area in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, hit 600.65 million metric tons in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 5.12 percent, according to local shipping and port bureau.

This was the first time the figure has crossed the 600-million-ton threshold.

The figure included 193.47 million tons of foreign trade cargo and 280.98 million tons of cargos handled via sea-river combined transportation.

The annual throughput of oil and gas at the Zhoushan port area increased slightly, while that of coal saw a 34.97 percent year-on-year increase to 39.13 million tons. Meanwhile, the throughput of grain exceeded 10 million tons for the first time to reach 15.41 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 71.1 percent.

The oil and gas throughput of Zhoushan port area amounted to 132.52 million tons in 2021, up 3.95 percent year-on-year, with the throughput on Huangzeshan Island increased 206.17 percent year-on-year.

Last year, Zhoushan cooperated with cities along the middle and upper reaches of Yangtze River, operated two 14,000-ton ships along the Yangtze River, and launched two ship routes for bulk cargo to Wuhan and Huangshi.

In 2021, the output of the maritime service industry in Zhoushan totaled 35 billion yuan ($5.5 billion), a year-on-year increase of 30 percent. The city brought in 62 maritime service suppliers that same year, including Ningbo-based Ningshing Holdings.
