Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province registered 25,574 market entities in 2021, bringing its total tally to 148,118, local media reported on Feb 8.

The figure includes 11,097 private companies, a year-on-year increase of 21.58 percent, and 158 companies with a registered capital of more than 100 million yuan ($15.72 million), a year-on-year increase of 12.06 percent.

The number of newly-established companies involved in the tertiary industry last year was 10,438, which accounted for 91.62 percent of the total in the city, while the number of newly-built individual businesses dropped 11.44 percent year-on-year to 14,084.
