China's first 7,500-metric-ton dual-fuel methanol bunkering vessel, Da Qing 268, was launched at Qifan Shipyard in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, on Oct 23.

The launch marks a significant milestone in developing a zero-carbon shipping corridor and completes the nation's full methanol fuel industry chain — from production and transportation to bunkering and application.

The vessel measures 109.9 meters in length, 20 meters in width, and 10.2 meters in depth. Designed by Zhoushan Wonderful Marine Design, it complies with international navigation standards and can transport chemicals, refined oil, and methanol fuel. Its primary role is to supply green methanol fuel and fuel oil to ships operating in port anchorages.

The vessel is the first dual-fuel-powered ship in China to enter service. It helps reduce energy consumption and emissions, contributing to a more sustainable and low-carbon shipping supply chain.

The vessel was built by Zhoushan Hehui, where more than 200 workers completed construction in 10 months despite summer heat and tight schedules. The team has now relocated the ship to the outfitting quay for system installation, equipment testing, and sea trials. Delivery is expected by late December.
