Shengsi county in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, has been buoyed by a boom in mussel exports this year.
According to Shengsi Customs, mussel exports reached 1,681.3 metric tons between January and February, valued at about 23.4 million yuan ($3.4 million). This marks a 49.6 percent increase in volume and a 62.1 percent increase in export value compared to the same period last year, setting new records.
Shengsi's mussels account for over 90 percent of the county's total aquatic product exports. Thailand remains the largest market, with export volume and value rising by 37 percent and 49.7 percent, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
Russia, however, showed even more impressive growth, with exports surging by 146.4 percent in volume and 115 percent in value over the same period.
To further boost mussel exports, Shengsi Customs has implemented various measures, including a "green channel" for seafood exports. Additionally, the customs authority has tailored support for local businesses, offering guidance on food quality management, factory layout, and production processes to expand exports and enhance global competitiveness.
