The Da Yuan You 8 fuel supply vessel left Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province on March 23, carrying 2,600 metric tons of biofuel blend and heading to Qingdao Port to refuel international ships.
This marks the commercial export of China's first domestically mixed biofuel oil, a significant milestone for the green marine fuel industry in Zhejiang.
The biofuel oil, made by blending traditional marine fuel with biomass materials, can be directly used in existing ship engines without any modifications. This mix is estimated to reduce carbon emissions by about 20 percent, offering a cost-effective solution for the shipping industry's green transformation.
The biofuel oil blending pilot project launched in the Zhoushan port area of the China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone has now expanded to supply international vessels.
For businesses, the key benefits include optimized cost and efficiency. "The seamless service from customs has saved a significant amount of time and operational costs," said Wang Jiahao, deputy director of China Marine Bunker (PetroChina)'s Zhoushan warehouse.
The fuel export is a reflection of China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone's efforts to simplify oil trade processes and establish itself as a competitive international marine refueling center.
