Zhoushan opens first TIDE international lounge to expand global engagement

Updated : 2026-04-23 (chinadaily.com.cn)

Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province launched its first TIDE international lounge on Xiaogan Island on April 22, creating a new platform for foreign-related services and cultural exchange in Zhejiang.

Developed by the city's foreign affairs office, the venue brings together international business environment observers, foreign residents, and representatives from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, aiming to strengthen communication and cooperation.

The name TIDE stands for together, integration, dialogue, and exchange, reflecting its role as a comprehensive hub for international interaction, public services, and marine cultural tourism.

At the launch event, participants discussed opportunities in urban development and international collaboration. One of the participants noted that the platform helps connect industries and ideas while improving the experience for overseas communities living in Zhoushan.

A key feature of the lounge is its "foreign affairs plus" model, integrating services with cultural tourism, industry, and intangible cultural heritage. By combining cultural experiences with business engagement, the platform is designed to deepen exchanges and improve access to services for foreign residents and cross-regional communities.

The city plans to establish more such lounges to expand international outreach and promote marine cultural heritage globally. The initiative is expected to strengthen Zhoushan's role as an open coastal city and support its broader push toward internationalization.
