Zhejiang's first off-airport cargo terminal opens

Zhejiang province's first off-airport cargo terminal has begun operations in the Hangzhou Comprehensive Bonded Zone.

The terminal was established by Hangzhou Customs, Zhejiang Provincial Airport Group, and the bonded zone as growing cross-border e-commerce exports put pressure on cargo screening and customs inspection capacity at Hangzhou International Airport.

Security-screening equipment, inspection facilities, and customs supervision have been moved into the bonded zone. Customs and security procedures can now be completed simultaneously, eliminating the need for a second security check at the airport.

Each transport vehicle is fitted with an electronic lock featuring GPS tracking and tamper alerts, allowing monitoring throughout the journey.

The terminal is expected to cut air-export logistics time for companies in the zone by about 24 hours, reduce warehousing costs by 15 percent, and raise transport efficiency by 50 percent.
