Workers at Zhejiang Jiushan Food's workshop in Jinhua's Pan'an county, Zhejiang province, are rapidly preparing rice mooncakes, as production peaks for the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival.

Utilizing the county's rich medicinal herb resources, Jiushan Food has been developing new products since June that blend the region's ancient medicinal food culture with high-quality, health-beneficial ingredients, introducing four distinctive varieties: Astragalus with barley and red bean, ‌sealwort‌ with five nuts, lingzhi (Ganoderma lucidum) with black sesame and nuts, and Dendrobium officinale‌ with chia seed and peanut.

Rice mooncakes are a type of mooncake made primarily from rice, glutinous rice or rice flour. Unlike traditional wheat-based crusts, they offer a softer, chewier texture with a delicate fragrance, emphasizing low sugar, low oil, and a healthier profile.

These handmade cakes offer a refreshing taste with a rich rice aroma while aligning with modern healthy eating trends by adding traditional medicinal herbs.

Their designs incorporate elements of Pan'an's cultural heritage, featuring emblems of iconic ancient structures like Changwen Tower.

Within just two days of the launch announcement, over 20,000 mooncakes have been pre-ordered, with General Manager Chen Yanhua saying the company hopes to use these cakes to introduce Pan'an's premium medicinal resources to a broader audience.
