Wuju Opera debuted in Belarus on Sept 11, as the Zhejiang Wuju Opera Troupe from Jinhua, Zhejiang province, brought the classic opera Three Battles with the White-boned Demon to audiences in Minsk, earning an ovation lasting over six minutes.
Based on the Chinese classic Journey to the West, the opera enthralled audiences with its vivid portrayal of good versus evil. To overcome language barriers, the performance included Chinese and Russian subtitles and minimized complex ancient references. High-level martial arts, skilled physical performances, and a blend of powerful and graceful singing ensured the art transcended language.
The show featured numerous highlights, including dynamic mask and costume changes, breathtaking acrobatics, and intense fight scenes.
Anticipation for the premiere was high, with ticket prices ranging from $10 to $100, making it the theater's highest-priced drama in recent years. Tickets sold out over two months in advance, underscoring demand.
