Wuzhen improvements pave the way for World Internet Conference

(ezhejiang.gov.cn) Updated : 2016-11-07

Due to the approaching 3rd World Internet Conference (WIC), Wuzhen has witnessed a transformation. As the permanent site of WIC, Wuzhen has gone from a tranquil town in Zhejiang province to an Internet highland for the whole world with improvements seen in all sectors.

Baimadun, a village once famous for duck-raising, has now revealed itself as a potential paradise for entrepreneurs and a prospective site for future auto-camping.

The duck-raising industry in this village had caused a great deal of environmental pressure in the past. The comprehensive clearing of duck-raising farms is currently being implemented. Anticipated to be completed before the end of 2016, it marks a farewell to the duck-raising industry in Wuzhen.

Along with the clearing of the duck-raising industry, further environmental improvements are also on the list of the town's priorities. Since the beginning of this year, Wuzhen has reconstructed the facades of 360 houses and cleaned up silt deposits in 35 rivers which total up 21.5 kilometers.

After one year's modification, the characteristic street of Huanhe Road has become a direct passage to the main venue of WIC Wuzhen Summit. 50 houses have been recently modified and 274 flower-decorated pillars have been installed along the street.

The improvements of Wuzhen's physical presentation boost the strong entrepreneurial and innovative atmosphere desired, turning the town into one of intelligence and entrepreneurship. An Internet industrial park, built since the last WIC, has since introduced more than 20 projects covering e-commerce, virtual reality and software development.

A batch of Internet projects have landed in Wuzhen, including the Zhejiang big data exchange center, a big data industrial park and a Tencent makerspace. The widespread application of Internet-related technologies, like the Internet hospital, is changing life in Wuzhen, forming an Internet town with refined features internally and externally.
