Welcome to Shengzhou
Located in the eastern part of Zhejiang province, Shengzhou is prefecture-level city of Shaoxing and the transport hub linking neighboring cities of Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou and Jinhua.
Known for culture, museums and natural parks, the city is the birthplace of Yueju Opera, the second most popular opera in China listed among the national intangible cultural heritage. The art form, which combines operatic traditions and dialects, features actresses in male roles, as well as femininity in terms of singing, performing, and staging. Over time, it grew in popularity throughout China and provides a cultural bond in the country and abroad.
Aside from Yueju Opera, Shengzhou is also home of bamboos with bamboo weaving evolving into a folk handicraft. With upwards of 200 weaving techniques, Shengzhou's bamboo industry now provides a total of 3,000 kinds of weaving products in 12 categories including baskets, pots, trays, pans and so on.
In 2006, Shengzhou bamboo weaving was included in the national intangible cultural heritage.
The city is one of the major producers of electronic motors in China and was named China's production base of low-power motors by the China Electrical Equipment Industrial Association in 2008.
It currently has more than 1,000 motor manufacturers, whose products can be divided into 100 series and over 1,000 kinds, such as motors used in washing machines, cooker hoods and fans.
