Shen Manhong, a deputy to the 13th National People's Congress from Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province, called for measures to facilitate the construction of green ports across the nation.

As comprehensive transportation hubs, ports are pivotal to China's economic and social development. The green ports should be environmentally friendly and energy saving, according to Shen, also president of Ningbo University.

Shen said that although Ningbo Zhoushan Port in Zhejiang province has made progress in becoming more environmentally friendly, it still lags behind the world's advanced green ports.

He proposed that more efforts be made to speed up the development of green transport systems that are compatible with green ports and formulate related laws and regulations concerning.

Violators should be subject to certain penalties for not using or not installing shore power facilities on time, Hong said.

Measures such as technical support and financial subsidies are also helpful in facilitating green port construction, according to the deputy.
