The Zhejiang provincial government recently published a notice on establishing four high-profile laboratories in the province, namely the Zhejiang Provincial Lab for Intelligent Science and Technology, the Liangzhu Lab, the Westlake Lab, and the Lakeside Lab.

According to the notice, the general development goal for the four labs is to concentrate major scientific research facilities and professionals and deliver original, pioneering research outcomes to bolster the province's advanced industrial clusters in areas such as internet application, life health, and new materials.

The Zhejiang Lab, a Hangzhou-based research institute jointly established by the Zhejiang provincial government, Zhejiang University, and Alibaba Group, is tasked with the founding of the Zhejiang Provincial Lab for Intelligent Science and Technology. The new lab will conduct research into intellisense, intelligent networks, intelligent computing, big data, blockchain, and intelligent systems, seeking to play a significant role in China's research into intelligent sciences.

Zhejiang University is tasked with building the Liangzhu Lab, or the Zhejiang Provincial Lab for Systems Medicine and Accurate Diagnosis. The lab is expected to become a first-tier scientific innovation platform in the world.

Westlake University will lead the construction of the Westlake Lab, or the Zhejiang Provincial Lab for Life Science and Biomedicine. This lab will focus on two research areas: metabolism and age-related diseases, and the study of tumor mechanisms.

The Lakeside Lab, or the Zhejiang Provincial Lab for Data Sciences and Applications, will be mainly developed by the Alibaba DAMO Academy. It will conduct research meant to shape the world's digital economy in the future.
