The Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism released the 2018-2019 Zhejiang Homestay Hotel Blue-paper Book at a press conference in Lin'an district, Hangzhou on Sept 10.

The blue-paper book, edited and published by the department, paints a complete picture of Zhejiang's thriving homestay hotel industry. The book is divided into five sections, namely the industry's development mode and pathway, general information about the industry, the consumer market for homestays, the industry situation in different Zhejiang cities, and well-known homestay brands.

According to the statistics presented in the book, Zhejiang was home to 19,818 homestay hotels, with over 200,000 guest rooms and over 300,000 beds, by the end of 2019. These hotels directly employed 150,000 people and totaled more than 10 billion yuan ($1.74 billion) in operating revenue in 2019.

The booming industry has been attracting an increasingly large amount of investment in the past few years: 19.26 billion yuan in 2017, 22.53 billion yuan in 2018, and 27.28 billion yuan in 2019.

Zhejiang authorities have awarded a total of 488 homestay hotels "silver", "gold", and "platinum" grade titles since 2017.

At the press conference, Yang Jianwu, deputy director of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, expressed his hope that the blue-paper book will provide useful guidance for government organizations, industry practitioners, investors, and rural entrepreneurs who are involved in the province's homestay sector. He also took the opportunity to welcome more people to contribute to the further development of the province's homestay industry.
