Three sea aquaculture projects in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province are expected to put into operation in June, according to local media reports.
Located near Dachen Island, which is 52 kilometers away from the mainland, the projects have a combined annual output of 600 metric tons of yellow croakers valued at 50 million yuan ($7.69 million).
The three projects are the first batch of sea aquaculture projects in Zhejiang.
As a prime breeding base for yellow croakers in the East China Sea, the island's annual output of yellow croakers increased from 3,600 tons in 2016 to 6,200 tons in 2021, according to official statistics.
Yellow croakers produced on the island have been designated a geographical indication (GI) product by the National Intellectual Property Administration.
In addition, Dachen has also become a popular tourism destination due to its unspoiled natural landscapes and abundant Red tourism attractions.
Formerly a desolate island devastated by wars, Dachen Island, is now dubbed "a pearl of the East China Sea". It was even featured in a series of reports marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China by China Central Television in 2019.
The island was liberated by the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) in 1955, when it was nothing but a barren land torn apart by years of war.
