Expat tastes Huangyan's traditional potato cake

Toufiq Zaman, a cultural envoy of Taizhou from Bangladesh, explored the making of qinggao — a seasonal delicacy deeply rooted in local tradition and made from sweet potatoes in Huangyan district, Taizhou. His visit showed into how traditional craftsmanship helps preserve regional culinary heritage.

He observed and participated in the preparation of qinggao. As warm rice flour sifted through his fingers, the sweetness of sweet potato and glutinous rice lingered in the air. The tapping of wooden molds against the dough highlighted the hands-on nature of this craft, which has been passed down through generations in the countryside of Huangyan.
