Print PrintA video of a humanoid robot has caught the attention of major media outlets and Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk. In the footage, the robot runs and hits a tennis ball — tracking its trajectory using vision, calculating the drop point and force in milliseconds, then positioning itself and executing the shot.
Behind this achievement are two companies from different industries joining forces: Galbot, a tech firm led by young innovators, and Baida, a manufacturing company based in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province. Their collaboration not only accelerates smart manufacturing but also lays a solid foundation for industrializing cutting-edge technology.
According to Huang Shen, vice-president of Galbot, the robot's ability to adapt to random and ever-changing conditions on the tennis court marks a significant shift in robotics. Previously, robots relied on pre-programmed actions, but this new robot is capable of real-time decision-making, enabled by deep reinforcement learning developed in partnership with Tsinghua University.
In September 2025, Baida and Galbot launched a joint venture, Taizhou Baiyin General Robotics. With support from Taizhou Bay New Area's efficient service and policies, the company aims to scale up production of robots and their core components.
Looking ahead, the robot's application in industrial, commercial, and household scenarios is expected to grow, and Taizhou will play a crucial role serving as a vital production hub. Local companies will benefit from the shared R&D platform, boosting the growth of the embodied intelligence industry.
