A cultural delegation from Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province, held a large-scale performance at the Teatro Nacional Ruben Dario in Managua, Nicaragua, on June 11, drawing a full-house audience of more than 1,000 people.
The delegation, composed of performers from the Taizhou Luantan Opera Troupe and Taizhou Folk Music Troupe, presented a series of traditional Chinese opera excerpts and instrumental works. The program included classic scenes such as Tai Hua Jiao (Carrying a Wedding Sedan Chair), as well as folk music pieces reflecting regional cultural characteristics.
The performance reached its climax when the Chinese children's song Fireflies Fly and the Nicaraguan folk song Nicaragua Mia were performed jointly by the Taizhou Folk Music Troupe and a local children's choir, prompting an enthusiastic audience response and chants celebrating the friendship between the two countries.
Prior to the main event, the delegation also conducted cultural salons and street performances in Granada, interacting with local artistic groups and showcasing Chinese performing arts in public spaces.
The event was one of the largest and most well-received Chinese cultural exchange activities in Nicaragua since the resumption of diplomatic relations in 2021. El 19 Digital, a local media outlet, described the performances as dynamic and engaging while highlighting the growing cultural ties between the two sides.
