The Damaiyu port area at Taizhou Port, East China's Zhejiang province, handled imported raw sugar for the first time on July 18, adding a new cargo category to its operations.

The Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier Aquavita Eternity arrived from Santos Port in Brazil carrying 71,075 metric tons of raw sugar. The vessel, with a maximum capacity of 80,929 tons, berthed at the port at 10:50 am and began partial unloading operations.

According to the operational plan, 17,229 tons of cargo will be unloaded at Damaiyu before the vessel continues to Zhenjiang Port in Jiangsu province to complete the remaining unloading.

Damaiyu is one of Taizhou Port's first-class open ports and benefits from deep-water shoreline resources. In recent years, it has expanded its "river-entry lightering" services, allowing large vessels to unload part of their cargo before entering the Yangtze River channel, helping reduce waiting times and logistics costs.

The port area continues to attract new cargo types, including imported phosphate ore and fertilizer materials, strengthening its ability to provide diversified port services.

The successful handling of the sugar shipment highlights Damaiyu's capabilities in bulk cargo handling and transit transportation. With improved operations and services, the port is becoming more deeply integrated into global shipping and logistics networks.
