More than 180,000 people in Zhejiang province lost a combined total of more than 145 metric tons in the first month of a weight-management campaign run through Ant Group's AI health app, Ant Afu, which ranked first in China, according to data released by the app.

Nationwide, more than 1.5 million people joined the campaign and lost a combined total of more than 1,200 tons.

On July 29, Afu launched a photo-based food analysis feature that provides calorie and nutrition information from food photos.

According to the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the proportion of people in China who are overweight or obese has reached 50.7 percent. Without intervention, the rate among adults could rise to 70.5 percent by 2030.

Ant Group said Ant Afu will continue upgrading its AI capabilities to help users manage their diet, exercise, and long-term health.
