The Zhejiang Provincial People's Government issued 18 measures on Aug 12 to strengthen industry-university-research collaboration in the brain-computer interface sector.

The measures cover four areas: increasing sci-tech supply, improving pathways for commercializing research, accelerating applications, and developing the industrial ecosystem. They include establishing a mechanism for companies to directly report their needs, strengthening proof-of-concept capabilities, and regularly publishing lists of brain-computer interface application scenarios.

Zhejiang had 1,058 valid invention patents related to brain-computer interfaces by the end of 2025, with Hangzhou accounting for more than 90 percent and ranking among China's leading cities in the field. Major brain-computer interface companies in the province generated more than 2 billion yuan ($296.6 million) in revenue in 2025.

Research institutions including Zhejiang University's State Key Laboratory of Brain-Machine Intelligence and the Nanhu Brain-Computer Interface Institute have made advances in both invasive and noninvasive technologies.

Leading Zhejiang University-affiliated hospitals, including the First Affiliated Hospital, the Second Affiliated Hospital, and Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, have accumulated clinical data and experience in areas including rehabilitation for patients with high-level spinal cord injuries, neuromodulation therapy, and motor function compensation.
