The new station building of Yiwu Railway Station in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, opened on Oct 9 after three years and 10 months of reconstruction and expansion, giving the city known as the "world's supermarket" a modern gateway.
A train named after the city's cultural brand, "Youqing Youyi, World Yiwu," debuted from the station the same day.
Starting Oct 11, when the railway's fourth-quarter operating plan takes effect, the station will handle 272 passenger trains, up from 226.
The station serves as a comprehensive passenger hub in central Zhejiang, connecting five railways: the existing Shanghai-Kunming and Hangzhou-Wenzhou high-speed railways, the Shanghai-Kunming and Ningbo-Jinhua railways, and the under-construction Jinhua-Yiwu third and fourth lines. With 11 platforms and 27 tracks, it is the second-largest railway passenger hub in Zhejiang.
Yiwu is home to nearly 40,000 international traders, with about 1,000 foreign passengers passing through the station daily.
The upgraded station has north and south entrances, with 10 security lanes in the south and six in the north. The waiting hall is equipped with robots, translation devices, and signs in Chinese and English. It also offers a volunteer service station to provide a safe, efficient, and comfortable travel experience.
