Quzhou seeks logo for Go culture

China Daily| Updated :2021-11-05

Because of its status as the legendary birthplace of Go, also known as weiqi, many of the game's ardent fans take a keen interest in Lanke Mountain – a scenic area administered by the Kecheng district of Quzhou city in East China's Zhejiang province.

The story about an ancient woodman called Wang Zhi playing weiqi in Lanke Mountain with the immortals was told as early as the Jin Dynasty (317-420), making it the earliest written record of weiqi in China. Lanke Mountain was subsequently known as "the immortal land of weiqi".

To further promote the image of the Quzhou Lanke weiqi tradition and build a globally recognizable cultural brand, the hunt for a collection of cultural brand identity logos, slogans and mascots was recently launched internationally.
