Yudong village in Kecheng district, Quzhou, Zhejiang Province is tapping into its farmer paintings to achieve common prosperity.

Nestled amidst mountains and waters, the village boasts captivating scenery and a group of farmer painters who have used their craft to transform the village into a picturesque work of art.

These vibrant and diverse farmer paintings not only make the village more beautiful, but also bring prosperity to the local people.

The village has driven the coordinated development of tourism, catering, and farmer paintings, with an array of cultural and creative products, including ceramics, silk scarves, and throw pillows rolled out, the related output value of which reached over 20 million yuan ($2.80 million) in 2022.

The village is also home to the China Rural Art Museum, the first of its kind in the country, which displays hundreds of artworks created by locals.

More than 300 people in the village, which is a small rural community of just over 800 residents, have engaged in various painting-related occupations.

The farmer paintings depict the magnificent transformation of the village and the remarkable changes in the lives of its residents. Some portray scenes from the early days of China's reform and opening-up, showing people gathering around the village's first television set to watch TV programs. Others depict recent developments, such as the introduction of shared canteens, laundry rooms, and cafes, which have enhanced the community's quality of life.
