Firefly watching adds glow to Quzhou's summer nights

As the heat lingers on into August, fireflies appear around woodlands, streams, and rice fields, offering visitors a chance to enjoy the quieter side of those summer nights in Quzhou, Zhejiang province.
At Bailuzhou Nature Camp in Quzhou's Qujiang district, fireflies can be spotted among stands of Chinese wingnut trees in August. The site also offers a small train ride through the woods and a forest adventure course, with the nearby Bailuzhou Xiyuan homestay providing dining and accommodation.

Gaotiankeng, an ancient village in Changhong township, Kaihua county, sits at an elevation of over 600 meters. It has been developed into the Xingxiu Gaotian resort area, known for its dark skies and stargazing opportunities, with very low light pollution.
Fireflies are typically visible there from July to August, while the Milky Way can be seen during the summer months under suitable conditions. On clear, dark nights in August, the area also offers opportunities to observe meteor showers.
