Jiangshan links shuttlecock production with village sports and tourism
In Jiangshan, a county-level city in Quzhou, Zhejiang province, badminton connects local manufacturing with community sports and tourism.
Jiangshan now has 55 companies involved in badminton production and related businesses, with annual output reaching nearly 240 million shuttlecocks. A single company can provide jobs for more than 100 people.
In Shandi village, Hechun town, residents gather at the local badminton hall around noon. The village began producing shuttlecocks in the 1990s, drawing on the area's white goose farming industry.
In Baisha village, Fenglin town, residents say badminton helps them stay fit and strengthen community ties. The village offers free indoor and outdoor courts with no reservations required. It plans to develop study tour programs led by trained local sports enthusiasts and add activities to village sports meets to attract visitors.
Jiangshan held its first Jianglang Mountain Cup Farmers' Badminton Super League in 2025, with more than 300 teams participating in events across 19 townships and subdistricts. The 2026 edition attracted 88 teams and more than 900 badminton enthusiasts.
A representative of Jiangshan's sports bureau said the city aims to connect residents' enthusiasm for badminton with local industry and urban resources, creating more opportunities for sports and tourism to develop together.
