Li Shutong
Master Hongyi, known as Li Shutong (1880-1942) - a pioneer of new culture in China during the 19th century - spent eight months in seclusion, studying Buddhist doctrines.
One year after he graduated from Shanghai Nanyang Public School, he traveled and studied in Japan. Li came back from Japan and from 1907 taught painting and music for seven years.
Master Hongyi passed away at Quanzhou, Fujian province in October 1942.
