Tang Lan (1901-1979), formerly called Zhang Pei, was a student of Wang Guowei, a renowned scholar of international repute.
Besides being the editor-in-chief of weekly and monthly magazines in Tianjin, the Jiaxing-born Tang also held a position at the Education Department of Liaoning province and taught at Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University and Southwest Associated University.
His other roles include deputy director of the Palace Museum, an academic committee member at the Institute of History of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and a council member at the China Ancient Writing Academic Research Association.
