About 7,300 metric tons of sustainable aviation fuel departed from Jiaxing Port in East China's Zhejiang province for overseas destinations on April 13, marking the port's first maritime export of bio-based jet fuel and the addition of a new green cargo category.
The fuel was produced from waste oils such as used cooking oil and animal fats. Through processes including hydrodeoxygenation and hydroisomerization, the materials were converted into aviation fuel.
Compared with conventional jet fuel, this shipment is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 21,900 tons and generate about $15 million in revenue, reflecting both environmental and economic gains. The project has been included in national and provincial programs for advanced low-carbon technologies.
To ensure the safe transport of this new cargo type, the Jiaxing maritime safety administration provided full-chain services for shipment, including cargo assessment, suitability verification, terminal condition checks, and vessel selection. Since the beginning of this year, the administration has supported six outbound shipments of biofuel, with total cargo exceeding 50,000 tons.
The export marks a new step in Jiaxing's efforts to advance carbon reduction goals while expanding foreign trade. The city's maritime safety administration will continue to support green energy logistics and strengthen the port's role in sustainable development.
